Convenient quilt

When I first moved to the coast 8 years ago, I joined the local (Belfast) quilt guild, the Friendship Sampler guild. One of the "activities" they had was a "puzzle" quilt. We were to buy 12 fat quarters or half yards of fabric. During the meeting we cut 12 eighteen inch squares, stacked them and using a pattern provided we were to cut the stack of squares IN ORDER.

I cut off the bottom of this because there was the persons phone number. The missing word is "fun"

Now the convenient part...  I've had these 12 squares kicking around my studio for as many years. I wanted a warn quilt to cover me from my chin and long enough to tuck under my feet. I didn't really want to put a lot of work into it so while looking for some crappy fabric to use (God forbid I use "good" fabric), I ran into these blocks. I had an old wool blanket so thin you could see through it plus I had an 1/8 " wool bat and both were just the perfect size for 3 blocks wide and 4 blocks long. I dyed some fabric for sashing which ended up not matching very well and in two days had it assembled and free motion quilted. It weighs a TON but it is just what the doctor ordered.

  2. It's beautiful! And when the weather is cold, I love the weight of a good quilt, especially when I can tuck it under my feet and really get wrapped up in it. Nice!
