input needed

I want to finish this quilt that started out so hopefully. Here it is pieced


 then quilted.

 I heavily beaded it hoping for the sunshine effect and ended up with a monstrosity. I removed all the beads above the water line. I am happy with the heading and stitching on the water but the sky - mainly the blue part- seems so empty.

I don't know whether to remove the top part of the sky or add light running stitches in cloud shapes



or what. Suggestions?
The BIG mistake was made during cutting when the segments were cut so straight like stripes. This is about 30something X 45. I've done a lot of work and I really don't want to trash it.

I am really thinking about cutting off the top segment which is blue and purple and BIG. If  I do and you squint, it looks much better.


This is kind of crude but you can get an idea of what it would look like. I am leaning in this direction.

    why don't you make additional strips at the bottom for more balance?

    I also think the variation-slim is the better one. More tension, though i maybe some more blue to the left corner to stabilize the foundation. And I also like the idea of swirls and movement in the sky, though i would do it with HEAVY stitches - yellows mostly, swirling into thered-pink and also into the blue, connecting the two parts together... the rest of the blue in the same style but done with blue thread. - well, this is just how i see it. maybe somebody else has better ideas.

    I agree with Beata, let the threadcolour and heavy stitching help you connect the two pieces. An alternative might be to use painted fusible web ironed in bits over the blue upper part? Wanna know why I know this ;-) ?

    I don't think you should cut it off. You will miss a lot of contrast. Like Beata and Nienke I should go for threads and stitching. And the idea of painted fusible web is great, Nienke!

    Two possibilities - One would be the swirl stitching with a contrasting thread, maybe even some couched threads to make it more noticible, or perhaps use some scrim, lightweight cotton gauze or chiffon to create a cloud effect? Or you could use some kind of stamping with white paint or ink to create cloud wisps? I'm thinking along the lines of this: http://cynthia-stcharles.blogspot.com/2013/01/new-printing-blocks.html...
    Definitely don't give up on it! You've put a lot of work in, and I'm sure you will find the right solution!
